Acne - Treatment

Acne is a skin condition which appears on the face, back and chest. Nearly 80% of people between 12-24 years old will have acne in a different way each one, also the acne appears later in life according researchers. Acne is common enough in pregnant women, because during pregnancy there is an increase of sebum production due to hormonal factors.
Factors are affecting acne skin are the following:
- the skin type (oily skin),
- heredity,
- sebum overproduction,
- the increase / decrease in body weight,
- hormonal disorders,
- thyroid disorders,
- polycystic ovaries in women,
- external factors such as environmental pollution and acute stress experienced
Examination by a dermatologist is necessary because infected pimples cause permanent scars. The dermatologist evaluate each case individually and try to diagnose whether exist other factors that cause acne which are mentioned above. The dermatologist suggests different medicinal products for the treatment of acne, depending on the age and condition of the patient, one treatment after another, avoid the use of the same products for a long time. In your pharmacy you will find products focused on acne skin sebum factors, avoid greasiness and with anti-inflammatory action. You will find them in cream, lotion, spa water and cleansing gel. In severe cases of acne except for the local treatment, antibiotics (tetracycline, minocycline and azithromycin) are recommended for a period of 3-6 months. Their effectiveness after completion of the therapy is not the expected always. The most effective cure with a success rate up to 80%, is the use of isotretinoin. It is recommended only in severe and chronic cases. It requires monitoring by a doctor and repeated blood tests mainly for hepatic function. Dermatologist will suggest this treatment after exhausting every other treatment or use of topical treatment or using antibiotics or a combination of them. Pregnant and children under 12 years is recommended to use this treatment. The dose comes from the weight of the patient and the type of acne. Usually the treatment is mainly taken the winter months with less sunlight due to photosensitivity. Rarely involves re-treatment.
Alternatively there are other methods of treatment with low success rate for the final result. These are peeling for acne, laser and photodynamic therapy. Also the laser is used for healing the scars of acne since the disease is completed.
